Maverick Volleyball
Club and Akron Canton Elite team up for
2009 season
Parma, Ohio—Maverick Volleyball
Club and Akron Canton Elite Volleyball Club
(A.C.E.) are merging their organizations
to form the premier training program for
northeast Ohio volleyball players.
The two clubs began training
together in early 2008 at Maverick’s facility
in Parma and will formally join forces for
the 2009 competition season. Joining the
Maverick staff are A.C.E. directors Mike
Sweitzer, former University of Akron head
coach with more than 20 years’ volleyball
coaching experience, and Jenn Larrick, a
standout outside hitter at Akron with a
stellar coaching record at A.C.E. James
BeHarry and Jenn Larrick will co-direct
the club and Mike Sweitzer will assume the
position of Volleyball operations. The club
will now be called the Maverick/A.C.E Volleyball
Club.
Sweitzer and Larrick bring
a wealth of experience and will establish
Maverick’s 16-to-18-year-old teams as national
forces while preparing athletes to pursue
their careers at the college level. Both
coaches tout a winning tradition, having
qualified their respective A.C.E. teams
for the 2008 USAV National Tournament.
The clubs’ merger coincides
with several improvements to Maverick’s
facility and training programs. In the offseason,
two additional Pro Gym volleyball courts
were installed for a total of four regulation
courts. The air-conditioned courts feature
retractable netting dividers and spacious
viewing areas for parents, players and fans.
Maverick teams also now have a multimedia
room and access to weight training facilities
in its home at Lakefront Lines Arena.
The club also has teamed
with JLS Fitness and trainer Jeffrey Lambert-Shemo
to provide comprehensive flexibility, speed,
strength and athletic training to its athletes.
Lambert-Shemo, a certified athletic trainer
with extensive experience in conditioning
and plyometrics, will help Maverick athletes
maintain peak physical condition, minimize
injury and maximize performance.
Maverick Volleyball,
founded in 1996, is committed to the “Total
Team Concept,” which stresses the importance
of athletics and education throughout one’s
life. Coaches and staff strive to create
a program that positively affects young
athletes within the context of sportsmanship
and competitive volleyball. Maverick has
placed more than a dozen teams in the Ohio
Valley Region’s top ten overall and in the
past three seasons has qualified seven teams
for the USAV National Tournament.
